Red Rock Fever

We met John yesterday and he had relocated to Sedona and called his love for the area, 'red rock fever'.

The majesty of Cathedral Rock, Sedona.

An early start to hiking up and taking in the views.

The Baldwin Trail, walking down from Cathedral Rock Trail via Templeton Trail along Oak Creek, a 6 mile hike among the beauty of the red rocks.
I understand the fever John talked about….

The treed riverine area of Oak Creek makes for a welcome relief from the heat and dust of the trail.

Just when one is lulled into the rhythm of the walk, people watching on the trails, Fred has another jaw-dropping encounter.

He was stripping down to swim in the creek when fellow walkers pointed out the Mohave Green Rattlesnake. It was in the roots of a tree near where he was planning to swim!

Quick getaway to fetch his camera as the rattlesnake crossed the path and slipped away into the undergrowth.

We were both slack-jawed and quiet on the way back.

A reminder we are in the wild.
